The next morning was a day of celebration throughout Themyscira. Much pomp and circumstance was made for this tournament as they rarely happen, and for such a cause to go to man's world. At the great Coliseum the stands were filled as nearly every Amazon on the Island attended. If one noticeable Amazon was missing, it was Princess Diana as her seat next to her mother's was empty. The 16 contestants stood in the center all standing in 4 rows. The queen stood in her perch and announced.

"If you are all ready, then let the Tournament begin. There will be four challengers to choose the winners. The runner up will take the female survivor to her true love, while the winner will return the male to America. As you know only the runner up shall return to Paradise Island, but the Gods demand that only the Strongest, wisest, and best of you sisters be honored with this self-sacrificing task, and may the best maiden win."

With that the festivities began with a cross island race that ended back in the middle of the coliseum. The course ran a length of 15 miles into the thickest and dangerous parts of the island. There was very little open area to run and they must rely on their agility and fleetness of foot to traverse the course and avoid the obstacles along the way. Posing as Aresia, Diana wore the number 7, and stood ready at the start with her hair in a ponytail like Aresia usually wears. With the sound of a starter's gong it began.

The pitfalls on the course were many and quite dangerous. Quicksand, pit traps, as well as swinging traps were all along the course. Yet out of all 16 contestants they would persevere to see the end of the race. The queen took notice of number 7 who seemed to run the course as easily as water flows. Believing it was Aresia she was not surprised as for Aresia was very fast and agile, and trained with Diana. It would take 40 minutes before the first runner returned. It was a foot race to the end but number 7 beat out numbers 2 and 12 for the win.

The field was narrowed down now to eight and the next challenge took place in the coliseum as a 150 foot tower were erected. The tower had two wooden tracks that had two columns of holes line up to the top. On top of either track was a yellow cloth blowing in the wind. Hippolyta then stood and began to speak.

"Contestants, you all will be paired in a competition to climb the pegged track to the top, retrieve the cloth on top, and return to the ground. Whoever returns safely with the cloth first wins and moves on to the next challenge."

None of the contestants seemed unfamiliar with this contest yet the sheer height was dizzying even for the spectators. Yet they all seemed confident as they stepped up to the Tower. Number 7 faced off against number 9 who finished 8th in the last challenge. Once again she excelled in the competition, as she rose to the top in what appeared to be at unbelievable speed. She would grab the cloth, and race down in record time compared to her competitor who was only halfway down by the time she completed. At the finish of the 4th pair there were only 4 contestants left.

The next event was one that all the contestants feared as two warriors enter the arena carrying guns. Guns were rare if not even seen at all on Paradise Island. The Queen stood and explained it the Spectators and the contestants.

"Man's world is filled with evil, death, and destruction. In our long history, most of us sisters have witness first hand his brutality and wanton need to cause harm, pain, anguish, and death. The weapons the warriors have are one such weapon, the gun. If a sister is to survive in man's world she must have the agility to protect herself from there deadly consequences. Over the centuries, man has perfected his machine of death, and today these tools of death are far more superior then even a Century ago. The remaining four contestants must dodge each of the bullets or be wounded in the process. The sister that comes out unscathed will journey to America with the male. The runner up will take the female to her true love, and return. May the best maiden win."

The contestants were taken in pairs. It was one warrior with a semi-automatic gun. Her target was either one of two contestants. The first two seemed to block all 12 rounds shot at both, but number 2 was bleeding from her right ear. Her pair number 12 was chosen as the winner. Number 7 was pairs with number 4 as the gun started to fire. Their arms moved at a speed that was amazing as shot after shot ricochet off their bracers with spark. Then number 4 let out a scream as a bullet pass through her left shin. Once again Number 7 had bested the event, and there were only two contestants left.

Hippolyta speaks again to the crowd, and contestants. "The final event was one of pure strength in combat. The two of you must battle until one of you submits. Submission comes with bringing your opponent to her knees. You will be armed with only a staff, and the winner will be the Amazon who shall go to America."

The two are given a staff each, yet no armor or shielding. This was a battle of equal strength and no practical defense. The contest began to most of the spectators delight as number 12 seemed to press her attack on number 7. The two staffs struck each other with such force it drowned out the crowd. They were very evenly matched until number 12 got the upper hand. Number 7 lost her staff, and went on the defense. Using her agility she avoided the pressing attack of her opponent and then managed to grab her staff and break it. The fight turned a bit furious as they went at it, at points they seemed to be truly in a fight to the death. Soon they both were disarmed, and the battle went to grappling, yet neither comprised to going to their knees. Then number 7 had her opening and lunged at number twelve. The two gabbled with their hands interlocked. Number seven presses down on number 12 forcing her to her knees and winning the competition.

The crowd roars in applause. As she helps Number 12 up, Diana recognizes her as Mala who had helped find the two survivors.

"Congratulations Aresia. It too bad Diana wasn't here, she truly deserves the honor." she says as they both stroll towards Queen Hippolyta. The cheers of the crowd rose as she walked up the stairway to Hippolyta and kneel before her unaware her tie for her ponytail had become undone in the heat of battle. As she bows the queen speaks.

"Please, let me see the face of the strongest and most agile Amazon." she says as the contestant looks to her, her hair becomes undone and flows to its normal position. Hippolyta's expression changes to shock. "DAUGHTER! YOU!"

There is a hush among the crowd who strain to see what has transpired. For who they believed was Aresia was in fact Princess Diana.

Hippolyta was lost for words, her eyes seemed to well up with tears yet she fought it. "I knew it...I felt it! I...Thought perhaps...Oh well...it's too late now. You have won now...and I, your queen...your mother, am proud of you! In America you will truly be a Wonder Woman, for I have taught you well! I named you Diana after your godmother, the Goddess of the moon! Please stand my daughter!"

Diana stood as well as her mother who reaches to a small table with some equipment and a dress. "The Gods have provided you tools you will need in your travels!" she announces. She reaches for a coil of rope, and hands it to her. "This is the Lasso of Truth! It is made from the Shield of Aegis itself, and is unbreakable. It length is infinite, and has the power to render anyone to tell the truth." She then reaches for a dress with a breast plate and a tiara. "This costume is of my own making my daughter; you shall wear this to America. It carries the color of their own flag complete with stars. The breastplate and tiara also are made of the same metal that is used in your bracers. With these tools, you will be endowed the beauty of Aphrodite, the wisdom of Athena, you will be Swifter than Mercury and stronger than Heracles, a true Wonder Woman!"

The crowd roared in approval, as her mother gave her a long and loving embraced, and told her to step behind in the alcove to change into her new outfit. When she returned she stood to thunderous applause as the Amazons approved of their Wonder Woman.

Diana sees her enter with some fresh linen for her bed. "You Amazons are much too kind to waste your time on me." she says in a weak voice.

Heroine Prime Issue 1: Chapter 5
The warm Tropical air of the area surrounding Paradise Island blows on a bluff that overlooks Themyscira and the Bay. The Queen stands silent and resolute as she looks out to the blue sky and clean air to the horizon, seemingly reflecting on the past. It wasn't long before her daughter approached her in her uniform, the golden metal on her breastplate and belt reflects the warming rays of the sun.

"I had a feeling you would be here, rather than see me off mother." says Diana.

"I find it difficult to say goodbye, my child. For it may be the last time I say it to you." she replies. "Yet I am happy to see you before you leave, because I need t

Further thoughts on guns: in the “Dune” universe, there were shields which rendered any kind of fast-moving weapon useless. Not only were guns ineffective, you couldn’t even throw a knife quickly: a blade thrust had to be slow in order to penetrate the shield.
