The Expedition glided through a spectrum of light and color like a blur. There were no starts, just an endless seeming infinite cylindrical corridor. The bridge was abuzz with activity, especially at the science station where Lydinar and S'anra were stationed.

“Gravimetric shear is off the scale. Structural Integrity field compensating at 99.4 %.” stated Lydinar.

“Chroniton field generators are online and no signs of Temporal stress.” added S'anra.

“How’s everything in engineering.” queries the Captain as she still had an open channel.

“The Warp core is performing as promised Captain!” exclaimed an elated Candela.

“Good work, lieutenant. Helm, how’s she handling?”

Mikita seemed a bit apprehensive as she looked at the readings. “Helm is responding; we are still locked in on course, but there is a lot of pockets of Gravitational distortions.”

“I'm sure you can get us around these pockets, Ensign?”

Mikita seemed a bit peeved by the Captain, knowing full well her piloting skills were impeccable. “It should be no problem, Captain.”

“Good. Lieutenant James, ship status.”

“All inertia dampeners are functional. Life support and ship services report all systems are nominal.” state Juliet. “We have no subspace communications.”

Commander Gunn smirks as he looks to Ashley. “Hell if we get a flat tire then.” Ashley gives a smile as he then looks to the Captain. “I'm heading to sickbay. It never fails that somebody is gonna get sick.”

Maxwell starts for the Turbo lift as Ashley turns to him. “By the way, there is so far no reports of cellular mutation, doctor.”

Maxwell smirks again as the door swished open to the Turbo lift. “The night is young.” he states as he enters and the doors swish close.

The Asteroid colony was showing some apparent improvements as several noticeable Starfleet consoles had been added as well as equipment. Yet the sight of Talaxians all about the corridors were in themselves adding to the alien nature of their surroundings. Most were busy working as they constructed equipment that was sent to them from the far distant Alpha Quadrant. At one of these work parties, Ambassador Neelix helps several Talaxian males and females install a new replicator. As it comes to life, someone unlike the Talaxians enters the area. He wears a Starfleet Operations uniform and stands behind Neelix as he cheers and congratulates all who worked on installing the new unit until his long winded speech is interrupted by, “Excuse me.”

Neelix turns and smiles as he sees the familiar face of a friend from the past. “Doctor, it's so good to see you, my friend.”

The hologram seemed annoyed by Neelix platitudes as he looks to him. “Mr. Neelix, may I remind you I am not the Doctor, and I go by the name Zimmerman.”

Neelix seemed genuinely concerned by this. “Yes, so sorry. Doc... I..I mean Zimmerman. I’m just grateful they could send us another Hologram, seeing the state of things of late.”

The two begin to walk off into the corridor as they talk. “I've been doing some long term projections about the shielding we have on the colony and it may be worse then I last reported.”

Neelix seemed very concerned as they both stopped. “But you assured Oxilon that we had several months before it would be come lethal.”

“Which is a fact, but the type of Zeta Radiation they are using is not only lethal to us, but the colonies shield emitters as well.”

Neelix seems confused as he ponders this information. “But the shields are ineffective from the radiation as it is?”

“Exactly. I'm starting to believe that this may not be the work of just the Malon.”

“The miners? Surely they would of moved on with the prospect of taking us on again.”

“That is the problem. They know about Voyager, as well as your so called Ambassador status. They must have heard about Voyager’s return and use that as a pretense to reclaiming the asteroid belt.”

“What about this Project Slingshot? Surely the Federation send help sooner.”

“The last transmission mentioned the first ship was completing it's refit. Even if it arrives, chances are this will be a science ship rather than a fighting vessel.”

“I have met the people from the Federation; I don't care if they send them in a shuttle. I’m sure they can help us with this. Besides...I feel responsible for all this as well.”

“Neelix, you couldn't have seen the future. Who is to say that these very miners would of harassed you all as well on a new world.”

“It's better than looking at these walls of metal. Crates....Machinery....this is not a home...Oxilon knew this....and I talked him out of it.”

Neelix starts to walk away as Zimmerman hesitates a moment. “Neelix! It's not your fault...any of this!” Neelix stops and turns to him. “I understand. How many times must you be chased from a home. You made a stand...here. Neelix! So pronounced was your stand...they came back!”

“What am I supposed to do?”

“What you did then, and what you continue doing! Stay strong, Neelix. Don’t give in! This is just yet another obstacle. I am sure when the Expedition gets here, they can buy is more time, and perhaps do something about the Malon, and the miners as well.” Neelix seemed calmed by Zimmerman's words as he gave him a friendly embrace.

“I know you are not the Doctor, but you have a lot of him inside your programming.” Zimmerman seemed a bit embarrassed by the embrace but slowly comes around and returns the embrace.

Meanwhile, several light years away, a lone fleet of mining ships work near a large asteroid. The larger of the ships was abuzz with activity as a smaller shuttle approached and landed in the Hangar bay. As the shuttle sat, the hatch opens and one man exits. His alien appearance matches that of the crew as they start to prepare his shuttle for service. One of the men approaches him and stands a few feet away.

“Commander Norcona, Commodore Avrell is awaiting you.” he states as Norcona simply nods and follows him to the lift.

Moments later, in huge and somewhat sterile accommodations, we see a female alien working at her desk that is covered with Tablets of reports. She hears her door buzz and she announces, “Enter.”

The Door opens as Norcona and the other man enters.

“Commander Norcona, Commodore.” the man states

“Leave us.” she states as she looks up to see the man exit and Norcona standing before her. “You let the Talaxians take your asteroid belt?”

“The Talaxians had help, as you see in my report.”

“Your report mentions nothing of this Captain Janeway or her ship running you off the asteroid belt. But I don’t see how one lone Talaxian ran you off with a weapon on the colony.”

“What of the alien shuttle that assisted the Talaxians?”

“What of it?! This is embarrassing, Norcona! You left 30% of the ore in the hands of those vagrants! Mind you, the Haakonians had a much easier time conquering them.” She seemed angry just looking at Norcona as she glared at him. “Give me a reason not to strip you of your miners’ rights as well as your ship?”

Norcona seemed pensive about her statement. “I will have the Talaxians evicted within the next few months, I guarantee.”

“You had thermolyte explosives and you couldn't evict them, what will make it different this time?”

“I have opened up negotiations with a Malon waste disposer. I gave him permission to dump theta radiation in the belt. They seemed concerned that this Federation would somehow interfere, but I assure him that the Voyager was no longer even in the Delta Quadrant.”

Avrell seemed interested as she listened. “And how do you know this about the Federation ship?”

“Several months ago, I am sure you read the reports of Borg vessels that were seemingly inactive, destroyed, and floating adrift? After some personal investigation, I uncovered information from one of the Borg ships that they had entered their Transwarp hub and effectively destroyed it.”

Avrell seemed awed by this revelation. “Impossible! No one can destroy the Borg.”

Norcona hands the Commodore the data he retrieved on a tablet. She momentarily glosses over the information before looking at Norcona. “This Federation...they sound like they could give us problems if they should return.”

“With the Borg Transwarp hub destroyed, I doubt they can. They have been known to adapt other species technology to return home to the Alpha Quadrant, but I seriously doubt they have the technology to return.”

“So you intend the Malon to dump radiation and force the Talaxians out.”

“Not exactly....I laced the radiation with Polaric radiation. As we speak, it's eating through their shield emitters as well as areas exposed to their colony. It will be a matter of days before the first of their symptoms be permanently damaged. Weeks until fatalities, and within a few months, whoever remained will be dead.”

“But what about the left over radiation, it will kill us as well!”

“The Federation ship Voyager once shared the technology to recycle the radiation.” He then shows her a second tablet that had the information. “It would be a matter of hours to clean up the asteroid belt.”

“And what of the Malons?”

“I will deal with them in a similar manner.”

Avrell was indeed impressed with his plan as her mood lightened. “You have your Command, Norcona. Don't find me a reason to regret my decision.”

Star Trek: Delta Expedition - Chapter 6
System L-848 is located in the center of a stellar nursery. It’s young star shines on the six planet system as the USS Pioneer and USS Expedition approached their destination, a lone Federation space station in the center of a complex. Traffic was light as several starships orbit the station. Most notably were transport ships and two Holo-ships among the fleet of 9 ships. In the distance, a ship yard facility can be seen with 6 bays already hosting starships to be refitted. The two ships slip into orbit as the bridge crew catch their first sight of the Transwarp Aperture. It was hexagon in shape and large enough to fit a dozen Galaxy Class starships.
Mikita seemed transfixed to the image on the screen. “How long have they been building that aperture?” she asks.
“30 months with a limited use of resources.” replies Ashley from behind the Captain at her station. “Most of the fleet was busy with the Dominion war, and later the relief effort on Cardassia.

The Expedition comes out of Transwarp into a hazy nebula gas region of space. Captain Yates looks at the screen before barking. “Come to a full stop.” Mikita's hands trail over the console, bringing the ship to a halt. “Ashley, check our position.” she then states as Ashley behind her goes checks her console.
She seemed a bit confused as she checks the navigational data. “Lieutenant James, can you confirm?” she asks the Operations officer, who checks her console as well.
“Confirmed...” she states in a somewhat awestruck tone.
“Captain, we are 2.19 light years from the projected destination.”
“That's larger than the deviation that Starfleet simulations expected.” the Captain states as she seemed a bit confused.
“That's not the only thing Captain. There was some time dilation. According to the ships internal chronometer, the current Stardate is 55657.2, which our Stardate at entering the aperture was 55658.3.
