2260-2206 USS Federation NCC-2100

The USS Federation (NCC-2100) was a 23rd century Federation Federation-class starship operated by Starfleet.  It was constructed in 2257 as a military superior Battle cruiser against the Klingons.  The Federation had been plagued with problems since it's launch in 2257.  Older Warp propulsion units were underperforming due to the Warp Geometrica created bu the Third nacelle.  This problem was not eleviated until 2264 when the new FWF-1 Nacelles were introduced.  Despite it finally passing Space trails, the Federation Council refused to place the ship in service as it could not carry out scientific exploration as it was a ship of war.  The next 3 years Starfleet would strip the ship of it's primary offensive nature and add science labs.  Although keeping it's multiple Phaser banks, and Torpedo tubes.  Finally they gave the command to Ben Harsting, a Captain who had never used weapons against an agressor.

In 2268 the Federation finally was commissioned and sent on a 5 year mission in the Alpha Cygnus sector as a Federation flagship.  Although several confrontations would break Harstings No fire record, it proved to be an effective deterrent.  In 2274 it was refitted, and began it's last 22 years of service for the Federation.  It was retired in 2296 a long with her 11 sister ships.  The Dreadnoughts were in the end retired by 2310, by the more productive Excelsior class.
