Description
The Pioneer was Commissioned on star date 47257.76 at Utopia Planatia Yards on Mars. It was the 11th ship named to be built in the Intrepid Class, yet completed as the 4th ship built. After the disappearance of the USS Voyager NCC-74657 in 2371, the Pioneer was delayed, yet so far ahead in construction it wasn't commissioned until 2372, but rarely left Sector 001. The Pioneer commanded by Captain Kevin Barstow would play a roll in the Second Borg invasion in 2373 that with the help of the USS Enterprise-E help destroy a Borg cube It would also be involved in the Breen attack of Earth in 2375. The Pioneer would damage one of their heavy cruisers before being neutralized by the Breens energy dampening weapon. None the less they held the line that no capital ships approached Earth before help arrived.
The Damage from the battle was helpful in making counter measures for the Breens weapons, as well as adding practical data to the Intrepid Class design. It wasn't until the conclusion of the Dominion war that the Pioneer was placed in active service outside of Sector 001. She would play a pivotal part in the relief effort in the Cardassion Union, as well as liberating hundreds of former Marquis members from Cardassion prisons, and camps.
In 2378, she would come back the Earth along with her sister ship the USS Intrepid NCC-74600 to welcome home the USS Voyager. Captain Barstow would take a promotion and his First Officer Captain Denise Forster would take command. Her tenure would be the Pioneers finest hour as they explored areas of the Beta Quadrant. In 2379 it was on call to respond to the USS Enterprise -E at the Romulan neutral zone, unfortunately a bad plasma injector forced then to go in for repairs at Starbase 124 thus missing the fleet operation. The Pioneer would continue to serve in the Beta Quadrant.. It was on patrol when the Hobus Star went supernova, and was one of the first responding ships for the rescue and releif operations in the Romulus/Remus sector. In 2388 Captain Forster accepted promotion and the ship went in for refit. In 2389 Captain Vanessa Ann Yates was named the new commander of the USS Pioneer.
